VISUAL ARTS FACULTY

Mrs. Beth Schmit earned her BFA in Arts Education from the University of Utah in 2009. Her concentration includes both 2D and 3D media with emphasis on 3D; Ceramics, Sculpture, Metals, Fibers and Book Arts. Schmit's personal work focuses on edges between abstraction and realism, using fiber arts to push between form and function.  She currently serves at the Chair of the Visual Arts Department.

Mr. Bryan Wilson received his MFA in Drawing/Painting from the Academy of Art University in San Fransisco in 2015. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Morris Brown College in 2001 with a BA in Studio Art with a Minor in Graphic Design.  He received his Teaching Certificate from UNC-Charlotte in 2009. Mr. Wilson is a three-time Elizabeth Greenshields Grant recipient, a Goodyear Arts Residency participant, and a Golden Foundations Artists Residency participant. He served as Chair of the NWSA Art Department from 2018-2020. He has a thriving art studio at the Charlotte Art League.

Mrs. Nannette Goodman, a native of Charlotte, NC, graduated from UNCC in 1996 with a degree in Studio Art. She continued her education at the University of Alabama completing graduate coursework in Book Arts, focusing on hand binding and letterpress printing. After teaching ceramics at two local studios for three years, she returned to UNCC in 2020 for her Graduate Teaching Certificate in K-12 Visual Art.  She began teaching at Northwest School of the Arts for the 2021-22 school year.

Mrs. Dana Khan earned her BS in Information Studies at Florida State University and later pursued a Degree in Arts Education at Florida International University. Her concentration includes 2D Studio Art, Drawing, Ceramics, and Printmaking. For the past 12 years she has taught Visual Arts in Miami and is New to Charlotte.  She began teaching at Northwest School of the Arts for the 2022-2023 school year. Her goal is to provide support and guidance to each student so that they may develop creatively in their own unique way.
